Child Safety Sun Wear
Child safety sun wear is becoming an essential part of a child's wardrobe and with good reason. Temperatures are consistently on a high, the days are longer and the summers are much hotter than any time in the past, but our children are completely unaware of these factors. They will keep on playing and keep on loving the sunshine, so it is up to us to protect them from skin damage and risks of cancer. Also very important are the number of children who suffer from skin disorders such as eczema and need extra protection while out in the sun. In some cases, their skin is so sensitive that using sunscreen products and other skin block is not an option as they can cause severe sensitivity reactions. Parents and caregivers are often struggling to have the child enjoy playing outside, being with the other children but at the same time keeping them safe from the sun's harmful aspects. Specially designed child safety sun wear can be a wonderful solution.
Clothing items made specifically for sun safety health usually come with the tag "SPF". This stands for "Sun Protection Factor", which is a rating that categorizes the amount of protection that the skin receives from Ultraviolet rays if covered by particular fabrics. Some technical language may be used to describe fabrics with SPF, such as thread count per inch or weave structure, but all you will need to know is the rating and the types of fabrics to choose for summer sun safety.
An upcoming trend in child safety sun wear is yet another acronym, "UPF" which stands for "Ultraviolet Protection Factor". The difference between Sun Protection Factor and UPF is the rays that the materials or fabrics inhibit. The most important thing to observe is that both SPF and UPF materials block as much of the harmful sun's rays from your child's skin.
What are the best fabrics for sun safety for kids?
Polyester, nylon, Lycraycra and even
denims are ideal fabrics you should consider. Cotton and linen are also good for sun safety for babies. Each of
these fabrics has special characteristics that help block out harmful sunshine. Nylon, for example, reflects
sunshine away, while denim is tightly woven and firm. Lycra is ideal for swimwear for the kids because it can
stretch and still retain its sun protection ability. Light or see-through materials should be avoided at all costs.
What range of designs can I choose from?
Most sun protective clothing items are usually
long sleeved and full-length skirts and trousers, hats and full collars. You will need to remember that
melatonin safety improves more by covering up as much of the body
as you can, but then again, you should also consider the activities that your child is going to participate in on a
summer day. Dress them appropriately and remember to cover up the exposed skin with sunscreen or if your child
cannot use sunscreen or sun blocks choose the appropriate child safety sun wear for them.
Any color specifications?
Darker colors are best for protection against the sun. It would
seem that the brighter the colors the more the sun's rays are reflected away, but in reality, UV rays penetrate light
colors faster than dark colors. Referring to the UPF of materials, a white cotton shirt has a UPF rating of 7, whereas a
dark colored cotton shirt, say a dark green shirt, has a UPF rating of 10. A thicker fabric, such as velvet can have a UPF
of up to 50 if it is a dark blue or black item of clothing.
What about accessories?
All children, from babies to toddlers to so-called big kids, need
child safety accessories such as hats, sunglasses and swim goggles. Remember to select the correct colors and fabrics
for hats, and while looking for eye-wear, the ideal types are the wrap-around shades that will keep the sun's rays from
reaching the eyes. Sunscreen should also be considered an accessory to be kept nearby at all times. It cannot be emphasized
enough that all exposed areas of a child's skin should be covered using sunscreen.
Factoring in all these ideas will be helpful when choosing the right child safety sun wear for your kids. As long as they are well maintained, the clothes and accessories can be handed down to younger children to save you money and keep your children safe in the sun.
