There was a horrible accident in Oklahoma on Thursday July 8, when a teenage girl drowned in a flash flood that was caused by heavy rains, which had plagued the area in recent days. In fact, just the previous week, one other teenage boy died after falling into a creek that was also flooding from the recent heavy rains and there was one lucky teen rescued from a very similar situation. Take the time to teach your children to stay away from creeks, rivers, ponds and other open water areas when they are alone and particularly when we have been experiencing heavy rains or rapid thawing depending on the season. Children and teens alike are curious and want to go investigate. They will explore and take risks as it is a part of growing up, however, we can prevent children from drowning by ensuring we are diligent in staying informed ourselves and teaching our children why there are risks involved with swimming pools, rivers, creeks, and any other source of water.

Weather Wiz Kids is a site that will provide you with excellent information to relay to children to educate them on how to be safe during heavy rains, floods and many other weather related events.
